Side Effects of Using Levaquin

pills in handThe antibiotic Levaquin, has been linked to an increased risk of painful tendon ruptures, tendonitis, and other serious injuries. Tendons can rupture quickly, within hours of taking Levaquin, or may take weeks to develop. In some cases, patients feel pain and notice swelling or bruising in the area of the tendon. This risk is further increased in older patients usually over 60 years of age, in patients taking corticosteroid drugs, and in patients with kidney, heart or lung transplants.

Levaquin can cause side effects that may be serious or even cause death.

The most common side effects include:

Dizziness
• Headache
• Constipation
• Nausea
• Diarrhea


Other serious side effects of Levaquin include:

Tendon Rupture or Swelling of the Tendon (Tendinitis)
• Joint Problems
• Liver Damage (Hepatotoxicity)

• Central Nervous System Effects (Seizures, Hallucinations, Paranoia, Depression)

• Serious Allergic Reactions (Hives, Trouble Breathing, Rapid Heart Beat, Swelling of Lips or Tongue)
• Skin Rash
• Intestine Infection (Pseudomembranous Colitis)
• Changes in Sensation and Possible Nerve Damage (Peripheral Neuropathy)
